Talent shows are very popular these days. Many people take part in talent shows. Some of them are really talented but some of them just want to be on TV. Some of the people become very famous after taking part in a talent show. Susan Boyle is one of them. She was just an ordinary person before she took part in Britain’s Got Talent. Today, she’s a pop star.
Susan wasn’t even the winner of the show. She became the second but soon after that she made her first album. Her album was the fastest selling album in that year.
Boyle was a 48-year-old woman. She loved singing and people told her that she has a great voice. Only a few people knew about her talent until June 2009. That’s when she appeared on the program Britain’s Got Talent and tried out before three judges.
“I never had a chance before, but I am here now and I hope it’ll change,” she said.
Boyle sang, “I Dreamed a Dream,” from the musical Les Miserables. She got her cheers from the audience. “In Britain’s Got Talent, she opened her mouth and the world fell in love with her . . . ,” one of the judges, Cowell said. “She’s amazing.”
Boyle is not only famous in the UK, she is popular also in the U.S. Britain’s Got Talent is not an American show but millions of Americans went online to watch Boyle’s audition. They loved the singer’s voice. I Dreamed a Dream sold 701,000 copies in its first week. The album was also the biggest first album by any artist since 1993.
“Everyone expected this to be a big record, but not as big as this,” said Martin Talbot. Talbot works for the Official Charts Company.
Being so famous wasn’t very easy for her in the beginning. Her photos were in magazines and newspapers. She was “NBC’s People of the Year” in the United States. She was also the special guest in popular talent show “ The X Factor UK”.
“I accept now that my life will never be the same. And I don’t want it to end,” Boyle told Matt Lauer of NBC News.
