Technology & Computers
Even though computers can’t think or do things on their own, they help us in many ways. We have to feed them with information because they can’t generate ideas and come up with new information. They are a great tool that help us save time and do a lot of work in a very short time. They also help us save space. For instance, all our files and the documents that we have prepared can be stored in the computer’s memory. In the past, people used to file every document and it took a long time to find the necessary documents.
As technology develops, computers get smaller and cheaper. Think about the very first computer: They were huge and expensive. You needed to have a big space to put them; they filled up almost the whole floor of big offices. Once people started to use computers, the demand was huge because they were practical and useful. Scientists had to work hard to find ways of producing cheaper and smaller computers. They invented chips which enabled to store more information in less space.
Today, computers are not only cheaper, but also more compact. You can put them on an ordinary writing table and carry them everywhere you want. And they aren’t only used by companies; they are also used at home.
Robots aren’t mechanical people as people think. They are just moving parts that are controlled by a computer. Robots are programmed to do some tasks and work; they can do the same work for twenty-four hours but don’t get tired or complain about it. In the United States people use robots for jobs like guarding, listening for some certain noises and sending signals in case of danger and trouble. As a result, some people worry that robots and computers may take the place of human workers.
