The 60 Second Interview With
I’m at a BMX track near Manchester with 13-year-old BMX rider Claudia Read. Claudia is on a break from her practice session, so let’s chat with her now. She doesn’t have a lot of time.

BMX means Bicycle Motocross. It’s a type of racing on a bike, but you don’t do it on roads. You do it on special race tracks. There are a lot of jumps in the tracks. Look at that guy over there. He’s standing up on his bike now and jumping. It’s awesome.

Everyone in my family likes sports. My brother always plays football. I love doing athletics. I can run 100 metres in thirteen seconds, but I enjoy doing BMX more.
3 .........................................................................................
I sometimes fall off, but usually, I don’t hurt myself badly. BMX riders always wear special gear for protection, like elbow and knee pads. A helmet is really important too. I’ve got two, but this red one I’m wearing now is my favourite. I usually win my races when I wear it!

It isn’t difficult to ride a BMX bike. They’re like kids’ bikes, but you need to be brave to take part in a race and win. You can’t do it if you are afraid. I’ve got four brothers and I’m the youngest in the family. I’m quite strong and competitive. I hate losing!
5 .........................................................................................
BMX racing is an international sport now, so I want to compete in international tournaments and be on TV. I often dream of winning.
