THE AIR LINE

THE AIR LINE

In Paris, it’s the Seine. In New York, the Hudson. Istanbul has the Bosphorus and Cairo has the Nile. Many great cities have lakes, rivers or seas. People use boats and bridges to cross the water safely. In Istanbul, ferries carry people from Beşiktaş and Eminönü to Kadıköy and Uskudar. Paris has many famous bridges, like the Pont Neuf. In London, to help people cross the Thames, people tried something different.

The Air Line is a cable car that people use to cross the river. It opened in 2012 because lots of people went to London to watch the Olympic games.

One car leaves the station every thirty seconds. It takes about ten minutes to go from one side of the river to the other. From the Air Line, you can see lots of famous places in London.

The first one leaves at 7am every morning, and the last one leaves at around 10pm. At night, after sunset, the view is great because of the city lights.

However, the Air Line is not very popular. It’s expensive. It costs £4.50, which is more than the metro or bus. It also doesn’t go to convenient places. Some people use it to see the beautiful scenery, but not very many people use it to go to work or school.
