THE AMAZING WORLD OF INSECTS
Insects and bugs are tiny but amazing. They live all around the world, from Africa to Antarctica,
even in the hottest or the coldest places on Earth. There are six to ten million different kinds of insects in the world.
Butterflies, dragonflies, fireflies, crickets, mosquitoes, caterpillars and bees are only some of them.
Bees are very small but they are very important for the Earth. They help trees, plants and flowers to grow.
And they are very busy making honey! In spring you can see many honey bees near the trees and the flowers.
They eat pollen and nectar from the flowers. They have a very long tongue to take the nectar from the flowers.
They live in colonies. In every colony, there is a queen bee and many worker bees.
The queen bee lives around four to five years, and a worker bee lives around four to six months.
The queen bee lays eggs in a comb that keeps the honey in it. A bee house is called a hive.
They keep some pollen in the combs for the baby bees, too. Their bodies are small but very strong.
They have two antennae, a head, eyes, an abdomen, four wings, six legs and a stinger.
They sting people with their stingers so you should be careful with bees.
