The Ancient City of Troy
a) The Trojan war is said to have taken place in The Bronze age, around 1200 BC. A Greek army was sent to bring back Helen, the wife of a Greek leader from the city of Troy. Legends say, soldiers hid inside a large wooden structure of a horse to enter the city during the war.
b) Archeologists have discovered that there is not just one ancient city on the site of modern day Troy. There are several, all on top of each other. Outside the city walls they found a plaque of a face, welcoming people into the city.
c) When this area was excavated in 1873 they found gold rings, silver jewellery, copper vessels and other valuable treasures. It seems there were many royal palaces and this was a great commercial city in its time.
