The Artist’s Assistant

The Artist’s Assistant

Dear Aunt Helen,
Life is really good at the T-shirt shop. I told my boss we should sell accessories like belts, rings and necklaces, and she agreed. We started to sell really cool jewellery made by a local artist, and now we have lots of new customers. The artist offered me a job working as her assistant. She will pay me $25 an hour! This is very exciting, but I am not sure what to do. My mum says that artists can be very hard to work with.
I make $8 an hour at the T-shirt shop. I really like it a lot. I work two nights a week and all day on Saturdays. I am good at the job, and I am learning a lot. Maybe I will study business at university and open a shop when I am older.
The schedule for the artist is very different. Sometimes she works all night long and doesn’t go to sleep. What time do I go home if she works all night? Also, she travels to Europe a lot. Will she pay me when she is in another country? The other problem is that the artist isn’t very friendly. She says very nice things about me, but I don’t think I will have any fun with her. The people at the T-shirt shop are really fun. What should I do?
Love,
Calista
