The Broken Vase

The Broken Vase

Jenny Borrows borrowed her neighbour’s car one afternoon. On the back seat of the car was a beautiful gift box, and she wondered what might be inside it. It was a rainy day, as Jenny was driving along; she hit a small patch of ice. The car spun around and headed straight for a tree. Luckily, she was able to avoid hitting it. However, when she turned to look at the back seat, she saw that the gift box was on the floor and she was very sad. When she opened the box she saw that there was a beautiful vase which was broken into many pieces.

Jenny was so sad. She didn’t know what to say to her neighbour. How could she tell her that she had broken the vase? Then she noticed the name of the store on the side of the box. So, she drove to the store and bought the same vase. She locked the new vase away safely in the trunk of the car. It had cost a lot of money, but she knew it was the right thing to do.

After buying the vase, Jenny decided that she should call her neighbour and tell her what had happened. However, before she had a chance to explain, her neighbour said, ‘I forgot to tell you. I bought a vase for my aunt’s birthday yesterday, and when I got home, it fell down and it was broken. I put it in the car because I was planning to return it to the store today. What time can you come and bring the car? I’d like to get there before it closes.’
