THE CAMPING WEEKEND
Vicky and her classmates went camping in the Green Hills Woods last weekend. It was an amazing trip. Vicky tells her mom about camping.
Mum: So tell me, were there a lot of wild animals?
Vicky: Well, not really. Brown bears lived there years ago, but now there are only some deer. They’re very shy, so it’s almost impossible to see one. There were a lot of rabbits and squirrels but you shouldn’t feed them.
Mum: How was the weather? Was there a river there?
Vicky: Yes! The weather was nice and warm. The forest is so green. The air was very clean and there wasn’t any air pollution at all. There’s a river and it’s clean and blue. You can see all the fish at the bottom. There weren’t any bridges or canoes. And it’s forbidden to swim. But the river wasn’t always clean like this. There was a factory there years ago. It dumped toxic chemicals in the river so it was black and slimy before. When people went camping, they produced a lot of garbage and just left it by the river. It’s sad that people polluted the river and the forest. But then they decided to change this.
Mum: What do you mean?
Vicky: Well 10 years ago, they closed the factory. A lot of people came together and cleaned the river. They also put signs everywhere to keep the water and the forest clean. We made a poster, too. Look, this is a photo of the poster we prepared.
Mum: Wow! This looks great Vicky. I’m so proud of you. Was there hot water at the camp?
Vicky: Well this was the only difficult thing about the camp Mum. No, there wasn’t. There is no electricity in the camp, so there is no hot shower. At night the weather was cool, but it was warm in our tents, so I wasn’t cold at all. I don’t think I want to go there in winter though!
