THE DAVID LYNCH FOUNDATION

THE DAVID LYNCH FOUNDATION

David Lynch is known worldwide for two things – for his mysteriously dark and inexplicable movies, and for practicing the peaceful Transcendental Meditation.

Transcendental Meditation is a simple, natural technique. This form of meditation allows your body to be in complete rest and relaxation and your mind to achieve a state of inner peace, without needing to use concentration or effort. Transcendental Meditation doesn’t focus on breathing or chanting, like other forms of meditation. Instead, it encourages a restful state of mind beyond thinking.

In 2005, after 30 years of meditating, David Lynch founded the David Lynch Foundation, which offers free Transcendental Meditation courses to students in poor areas, to veterans of war, American Indians, homeless people, refugees in Africa and children and adults in prison. The activities of the foundation are not limited to offering free meditation courses. It also funds universities and medical schools. Also, the David Lynch Foundation is working towards a goal of raising $7 billion to open “Universities of World Peace” in seven different countries. These universities will be adding Transcendental Meditation to their education programmes.

As a non-profit organization, DLF is supported by donations— big or small. Many celebrities like Hugh Jackman, Ellen DeGeneres, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and Katy Perry support the foundation. Many of the supporting artists record exclusive music tracks for the educational programmes with the “David Lynch Foundation Music”.

The results? 70,000 students in 350 schools around the world practice meditation with the help of DLF. And with encouragement and support from the David Lynch Foundation, the whole country of Brazil – over 190 million people– is now teaching Transcendental Meditation in all of its schools.
