The Emperor

Do you know this story about a foolish emperor by Hans Christian Andersen?

The emperor loves wearing new clothes and he spends all his gold on clothes. People are not happy because they are poor. The emperor is rich but he doesn’t help them. One day, two tailors come to the emperor’s land. They say that they make very special clothes. They are very special because only clever people can see them. Of course the clothes are not real! The emperor pays a lot of gold to the tailors for these special clothes. He pays too much gold for clothes that do not exist.

He arranges a ceremony to show his new clothes to his people. He goes out and walks without clothes. Everybody is surprised but no one can say anything. Suddenly two little kids shout loudly: “The emperor is naked! Then people start shouting: “The emperor is not wearing anything!”
