The Facts About Junk Food
Are you a junk food fan? Do you love cheeseburgers, chips, sweets and cola? We all know that junk food isn’t good for us. That’s why we call it junk food because junk means rubbish. But do you know these junk food facts?
• There are about ten spoons of sugar in a glass of fruit drinks. Fruit drinks mostly have sugar, water and colouring. There isn’t much fruit in them.
• There are a lot of chemicals in a bar of chocolate.
• Americans eat a lot of junk food - 30% of all their food is junk food. Most of them go to a fast-food restaurant every day. A teenage American boy drinks 868 cans of fruit juice in a year! So one in five children in America is overweight.
Junk food is bad when you eat a lot of it and when you don’t eat any other healthy foods. A bag of crisps at a fast-food restaurant is OK sometimes. But you can be healthier if you do these.
• Drink water or milk, not fruit juice.
• Have three good meals a day and don’t eat a lot of unhealthy snacks.
• Choose a chicken burger and salad in fast food restaurants.
