The Farm
My name is Alice. I live with my mother, father and sister on our farm in Colombia. We have a lot of animals, and they all have different jobs on our farm. The sheep give us wool. The cows give us milk. The dog takes care of the sheep. The rooster is a strange animal. Its job is to wake us up early in the morning.
A farmer has to wake up early. A farmer’s day starts at sunrise. A farmer has to have a tractor, because the tractor digs the ground up. A farmer has to buy seeds of different vegetables. On our farm, we grow different kinds of vegetables. My father puts tomato, potato, cabbage, onion, green bean, cucumber and corn seeds in the ground.
We plant each vegetable in a different season. We have to plant the tomatoes in spring. The tomatoes grow in summer. The rain and the sun help the tomatoes grow. If there is no rain or no sun, the tomatoes die. We have to pick the tomatoes from their plants at the end of summer. The tomatoes are ripe in late summer.
My father sells the tomatoes at his vegetable stand. He sells all his tomatoes in just one month. The neighbours love his tomatoes because they are fresh. They are bright red, juicy and delicious. We also give our vegetables to our animals. We have to go to bed early because we wake up early. Now our farm is bigger and I love the vegetables, animals and plants on our farm.
