THE FUTURE OF SHOPPING: HERE’S HOW YOU WILL SHOP IN 2026
Ten short years ago, Instagram wasn’t yet a glimmer in anyone’s eye, direct-toconsumer labels didn’t exist, and many people still didn’t feel safe giving their credit card numbers to online retailers. These facts got us thinking: How will fashion and retail change in the next 10 years? We asked the smartest minds in fashion for some ideas;
Prediction 1: It Will Be More Mobile Than Ever
You know that we can do most things in seconds with our mobile phones? Well, soon, in addition to being your main time waster, it’ll also be your main tool for shopping.
Prediction 2: Everyone Will Be a Designer
According to Paul Dillinger, no one knows better what you want out of a garment than you. Which is why, in the near future, we’ll see consumers play a much more active role in the design process.
Prediction 3: Wearable Tech Will Be Everywhere—But We Won’t Call Them “Wearables”
“Ten years from now, the idea of ‘wearable’ will be as out of date as the idea of ‘portable’ has become today,” says Dillinger. By 2026, so much of our wardrobe will have technological capabilities that we’ll no longer have to make the distinction. “We’ll see wearables becoming less heavy and able to connect to the net directly,” says another expert.
“They’ll have access to all cloud computing services and will bring new services, such as AI.” Which means one day your
zipper might zip itself up when it gets chilly.
