The Galata Tower

The Galata Tower

Dear Mum and Dad,
Yesterday, we visited Istanbul’s Galata Tower. It was a very exciting day. I learned a lot about the history of the building. The Galata Tower is one of the symbols of Istanbul’s skyline. It’s 67 meters tall and 669 years old. Over its long history, the tower has been a prison, a lighthouse, and place to watch out for fires. In 1630, Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi flew from the top of the tower to the Asian side of the city in a flying machine. Today,
you can take an elevator up to the top of the tower to admire the beautiful view. There was a long line in front of the tower because many tourists wanted to visit. You can see the islands, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn from the top, and there’s also a cafe and restaurant. We had some tea and dessert there. You can also buy souvenirs at the gift shop. I bought a mini model of the tower for my room.
Love,
