The Grasshopper and the Ant

Once upon a time, on a hot summer day a family of ants were on a farm. They worked hard all day and sat down to rest at noon. A grasshopper came to them and said, ‘Why are you working so hard? There’s lots of food everywhere.’ One ant said, ‘We’re gathering food for the winter. What are you doing?’ The grasshopper laughed and said, ‘I’m enjoying my summer and making music. Life is short! Just enjoy it!’ The grasshopper left and the ants started to work again.

In winter the weather was very cold, and the ants were in their home. One day somebody knocked their door. They opened the door. It was the grasshopper! He said, ‘I’m so hungry and I have no food. Can you give me some?’ The ants were angry and said, ‘Last summer you laughed at us for working hard. Now go and work hard to get your food.’

They closed the door, and the grasshopper spent all the winter hungry.
