The Great Debate: The City vs the Country

The countryside is praised for its calmness, fresh air and laid-back way of doing things. The city, on the other hand, is a busy place with lots of opportunities. But where is the grass truly greener? Pupils discuss: “Is city life better than living in the countryside?”

––Jessica: Most cities have better transport facilities compared to the countryside. There are cars, buses, subways which make transport much easier. Using public transportation to get where you want to go is invaluable.

––Marilyn: Living in a city is not easy because life is more expensive. You can’t live in a city without money; but, in the countryside, you can survive because life is cheaper. All in all, it is not always easy to afford to do everything in a city.

––Robb: In the countryside, people eat fresh food which they grow themselves. They also enjoy lots of fruits. There are fewer vehicles; therefore, people are safer and road accidents are less. The air is clean and never smoggy. Moreover, the environment is beautiful. What else you could ask for?

––Paul: Yeah, I really like living in the city because there are always concerts, galleries, bars to go to. Furthermore, there are restaurants, malls, theatres. There’s plenty to do in a big city.

––Chris: Country life is amazing. People stay close to each other and care more for each other. If I ever need something in a pinch, anything from a tool to a cup of sugar to a helping hand, I can practically ask for it from my neighbour.

––Lily: Living in the city rocks! We meet different kinds of people on a daily basis; mingle with them and learn much from them. As a result, our view of life changes as we begin to see things from a different perspective.
