The Highs and Lows of Summer Jobs
I have had so many holiday jobs over the years. My first one was when I was 16. I was about to start college in September, but during the summer, I decided to get a job. This job was in a local supermarket and I stacked shelves. It was very repetitive, and not at all rewarding. It was also a night job so there weren’t many people to speak to. I worked with a guy called Sam and we became great friends. I did this job for six weeks, and it was enough!
The next job I had was the following year. It was in a factory that made car parts. It was a very boring job. I worked on the conveyor line so about 1,000 boxes passed by me every day. I saw these boxes in my dreams at night! I only did this job for four weeks because it was too boring for me.
The summer after this, I worked in a nursing home for elderly people. It was a hard job but I loved it! I really enjoyed talking to the old folks and spending time with them. I think people don’t talk or listen to old people enough. I liked this job so much that I did it for the next two summers.
Last year, I worked with kids at a summer camp. This was really tiring because the kids were so loud and they never got tired! I did this job for 2 months. I think I prefer working with elderly people to be honest – the pace is much slower and far more relaxing!
