Our daily life relies on the internet. We have been using it not only for information and research, but also for shopping, entertainment, news and communication. It allows us to speak to any person on the planet without the high cost telephone bills. The Internet has provided many great artists with careers with satisfactory career prospects. People who would be overlooked by the mainstream industries can work now by using the Internet. There is no doubt that the Internet is the greatest wonder of the technological world.
Rise of the Internet
The USSR’s launch of Sputnik satellite into its orbit encouraged the United States to create the Advanced Research Projects Agency. It is known as ARPA. In February 1958, the USA regained a technological lead. The first node of the Internet went live at UCLA on October 29, 1969. It was called the ARPANET, one of the “eve” networks of today’s Internet. The first TCP/IP-wide area network was operational by January 1, 1983. The United States’ National Science Foundation (NSF) built a university network backbone. Later it became the NSF Net. Afterwards, the network was opened to commercial interests in 1985. Separate networks that offered gatewaysinto the world of the Internet. The internet combined with the NSF Net, Usenet, BITNET and the other commercial and educational networks, such as X.25, CompuServe and JANET. Therefore, it became possible for explorers to seek out the most fascinating and precious human knowledge.
