The Life and Times of Jamie Oliver

The Life and Times of Jamie Oliver

1. Jamie Oliver was born in England on May 27, 1975, and he spent many hours working in his parents’ restaurant, so cooking was a part of his life from a very early age. When he was 16, he started to attend a catering college, where he learnt all the basics of food preparation, hygiene, and nutrition. Then, one day, a documentary team came into the restaurant that he was working in. He was chosen to host a brand new cookery show called ‘ The naked chef ’ and that was the beginning of this world-famous chef’s journey.
2. Over the last 28 years, Jamie has opened over thirty restaurants in the UK, published 23 worldwide, best-selling cookbooks and began his charity called Fifteen to train struggling young people to work in the food industry. He also has recently opened two new restaurants; one in Melbourne, Australia and the other one in Amsterdam, Holland. He got married in 2000 and now has 5 children with very unusual names – River Rocket Blue Dallas, Daisy Boo Pamela, Poppy Honey Rosie, Petal Blossom Rainbow and Buddy Bear Maurice. In 2002, he produced a selection of kitchen equipment, which is now very popular. It seems he is the second richest chef in the world with an annual income of about 230 million pounds.
3. Jamie has campaigned for several years to improve the quality of school meals, both in the UK and in the USA. In addition to working with the British Government, he has appeared on many TV documentaries. His cheeky sense of humour makes him a favourite on chat shows and he is interviewed all over the world. He is never off TV and he loves to share his knowledge and enthusiasm for simple, healthy food.
