The Life on Mars

The Life on Mars

We are the first settlers of the new colony on Mars. Everything was perfect when we landed here two months ago, but now we have new problems every day. First, poisonous flowers started to grow in some of our bedrooms. We don’t know why it happened. Elements in the atmosphere of Mars mixed with the building materials and caused them to grow. They were very beautiful flowers, so we were really happy in the beginning. Then, many people got very sick because they were breathing in pollen from the flowers. The cleaning staff killed all the flowers and now everyone is healthy.
The second problem was the broken window of the farm. All of our food grows in a big greenhouse outside the small supermarket. There was an electrical surge and a light bulb exploded in the greenhouse. It cracked one of the windows and lots of hot air came in. All of our vegetables and fruit died immediately. There wasn’t enough food for a few days, but now we eat packaged food. We still can’t grow fruit or vegetables on the farm, and we are worried.
The third problem is political. The group that controls the oxygen for our colony decided to charge a tax for fresh air in our bedrooms. The rules say that water and electricity are free in our homes, but there is no rule about oxygen. We want to stop these people from charging the tax, but we are afraid that the Oxygen Group will turn off the oxygen if we fight. We don’t know what to do, so we pay them extra money.
