THE MONKEY IN MY TENT

THE MONKEY IN MY TENT

Dear Candace,

You went to the Amazon! That’s a great place for adventure! Uncle Bart and I went there 30 years ago, and we had so much fun. You said the howler monkeys woke you up with their screaming. Well, one night, we were sleeping in a tent, and a howler monkey came into the tent! The tent collapsed, and we couldn’t find the way out. The monkey was stuck inside, too, so it panicked. We both screamed a lot, and Uncle Bart had to cut the tent open with a knife. Then we had to sleep with no tent. I woke up with worms in my sleeping bag. It was disgusting, but we were young and didn’t care much. On the last day, Uncle Bart fell off the trail. I tried to catch him, but he landed in a patch of poisonous plants and got a terrible rash on his arms and hands. The rash itched very badly, but the doctor told him not to scratch it. Okay, it sounds like a terrible trip now, but it was actually really fun. The Amazon rainforest is such a beautiful place. I’m glad you didn’t get a rash!

Love,

Aunt Marie
