The New Skyscraper
Troy: What is this place going to be? The workers have been working so hard here.
Jean: Yes, they’re building a 50-storey building. That’s amazing, isn’t it?
Troy: I’m not sure. I don’t think a skyscraper like that would go with the architecture of the buildings around here.
Jean: Why not? The place will have a lot of shopping centres, offices and hotels. Lots of people will come here.
Troy: Well, this neighbourhood is famous for its buildings, cafés and traditional atmosphere.
Tourists always see these things in the brochures.
What would happen if they came here and saw a giant building covered with glass right in front of their eyes?
Jean: Yeah, you’re right. I’m sure they wouldn’t get that unique feeling any more.
Troy: Plus, it would be very crowded around here. With all those offices, people will drive their cars around here,
and there will be traffic jams, air pollution, noise and many more problems.
Jean: I think I’ve changed my mind. We sometimes ignore the negative side of things, don’t we?
