THE OPPORTUNITY
Benjamin Atkins is a seventeen-year-old with a dream. He wants to become a famous basketball player. He always plays basketball on the courts near his neighbourhood. The coach of Wintage School watched him two months ago. He thought that Benjamin had great skills and he could be a good basketball player. The coach talked to the school council and they accepted Benjamin into Wintage, an exclusive private school.
Benjamin started to play on the school team a couple of weeks later and the school council was satisfied with his ability. He was useful for the school team. But most of his teachers believe that it is impossible for him to catch up with the school schedule, except his science teacher, Mrs. Williams. She thinks that he can learn in a different way. She offered to give him private lessons. In order to continue his education at Wintage, he has to be successful in his lessons too. The coach helps him in any case which includes giving him opportunities. They see great potential in Benjamin, and believe he can succeed even though he has a disadvantage in learning because he joined the school late.
Benjamin has to deal with a completely different set of challenges to overcome his new environment. But he believes there is an opportunity for him to play at university level too if he improves his grades. As a basketball player and student, Atkins works hard and with the help of his coach he can make his dream come true.
