THE PATRAS CARNIVAL

The Patras Carnival in Greece is very famous. It is the biggest carnival event in Greece. It has more than 180 years of history. The carnival is not a single event. The carnival lasts about a month and it has many different events.

The town crier announces the beginning of the celebrations, which take place a few days later. Thousands of people take part in the carnival and they have a lot of fun. There are parades for children and adults. People wear costumes, funny hats and masks, and they dance in the streets. There are lots of other events, too. At carnival workshops, children make models out of paper and paint them. There are also treasure hunts. The treasure is in a secret place in the city of Patras and groups of people look for it. There are some clues in different places to help them.

The Sunday’s Big Parade is the biggest event of Patras Carnival. More than 40000 people dance for more than four hours in the city’s main streets.
