The Producers
During the day, most people spend their time finding, buying, cooking, and eating their food. They are constantly consuming food. But, did you know that plants can produce their own food? Wouldn’t it be nice if we could produce our food like plants do?
When we exhale, we release carbon dioxide. Plants use sunlight, water, and the carbon dioxide they exhale in a process called photosynthesis. They take in the water through their roots and receive sunlight and carbon dioxide through their leaves. The final product of photosynthesis is a sugar that is the plants' food. During photosynthesis, plants also produce oxygen as a byproduct.
All humans and animals need oxygen to breathe. Humans, animals and plants are great partners. Plants need carbon dioxide; humans and animals need oxygen. This is the most important reason why we need them. Scientists say that rainforests are the lungs of the earth. That is why we should protect them. Without them, life would be impossible.
