THE RED WOLF

THE RED WOLF

1.The red wolf is the rarest and most endangered of all the wolf species. It is a member of the Canidae family which includes dogs, wolves, foxes, jackals and dingoes. It is also known as the Florida Wolf.
2. The red wolf is smaller than their relative, the grey wolf, and has longer legs and shorter fur. Red Wolves are shy animals and generally hunt alone or in small packs. Unlike the grey wolf, the red wolf generally eats small animals like rabbits and raccoons. The red wolf sometimes eat insects and berries. Because they are smaller than the grey wolf, large prey is difficult for them. They can catch larger animals if they have help from other wolves.
3. The red wolf lives in forests, wetlands, and swamps. It communicates by body language and sounds (howling). There are more than 50 red wolves in the wild and another 200 in centres, which help to protect the red wolf.
