The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse
The country mouse lived in small hole at the base of an old Oak tree. He had a very comfortable life, with plenty of fresh food and clean air. He was extremely content. One day, he heard a knock at the door and was surprised to see his young cousin. He had come to visit for the weekend. Almost immediately, the town mouse was disappointed with his surroundings. He found the straw bed too hard, the outside environment was full of smelly animals and the food, well. Breakfast was a slice of brown, grainy bread with a mouthful of cow’s milk. Lunch was a handful of nuts with a large glass of fresh apple juice and dinner was a head of lettuce with a little, cool rain water. All way too healthy . ‘I’m sorry cousin, but I have a terrible stomach ache and I must return home.’ Turning around, the town mouse left immediately.
Two days later, a note arrived at the country mouse’s door. ‘Please come to see me this weekend, love town mouse.’ So, a few days later the country mouse presented himself at his cousin’s very magnificent home. ‘Welcome, you must be tired, follow me.’ The house was very grand and on the table in front of him was an enormous banquet of legs of chicken, a tray of cream buns and they drank sips of cream soda: all were very rich and greasy. Despite the beautiful surroundings, the country mouse was uncomfortable. He thanked his cousin and happily returned to his simple home. Home sweet home.
