The Truth about “Detox”
The word “detox” is probably one of the most common words used in social media these days.
It is becoming more and more famous every day.
Women are crazy about detox diets although they don’t really know whether they are proven healthy or not.
It is believed that they flush toxins out of your system. In fact, they may be risky and even back fire.
That truly depends on the particular detox diet you are following.
There are so many different ones becoming popular among young population.
Detox diets are typically very rigid and involve eating the same few things over and over.
Some involve fasting, or just drinking liquids. Others allow some foods, like fruits and vegetables.
The most important common feature of these diets is that they are all short-term solutions.
They’re not a way of eating that you can stick for a long time. Most people don’t feel good on low-calorie,
nutrient-poor diets. You may be very weak and hungry afterwards. On the other hand,
there are a lot of side effects including low blood sugar, muscle aches, fatigue, feeling dizzy or lightheaded,
and nausea. If following a detox diet appeals to you,
then you should definitely follow a clean one that involves a lot of vegetables, fruits, whole grains,
and lean protein -- basically, whole foods without a lot of processing. If you do some exercise,
this one will be great for you to lose weight and stay healthy meanwhile.
Some detox plans recommend herbs, pills, powders, enemas, and other forms of colon cleansing.
People who have problems with their colons follow these diets to clean them off. Yet, if your goal is weight loss,
a detox diet might help you drop a few pounds but you’ll likely to gain them back in a very short time.
“If your goal is to detox your system, don’t waste your time or money.
Your body is an expert at getting rid of toxins no matter what you eat. Toxins don’t build up in your liver,
kidneys, or any other part of your body, and you’re not going to get rid of them with the latest detox wonder.
Especially avoid diets that promise to detox your liver with supplements or “cleanse” whatever
the diet determines needs washing out”, said Dr. Michael Smith.
So whatever diet you are following, make sure that you are not losing your health while doing so.
