The World's Best and Worst Places to Live are...

Imagine you could choose the most peaceful country in the world to live in. What a luxury! The Global Peace Index has issued a report which lists all 162 countries in the world according to how peaceful they are. They used a wide range of respected sources such as The World Bank and some of the UN agencies before they made up their list. The UN clearly defines peace as the absence of war and violence, low military spending, levels of policing, organised crime, and the application of democratic government. Here are the top five most and least peaceful countries in the world:

1. Iceland: Apart from the scenery, Iceland has a 100% literacy rate in the 300,000 population. Living among an educated population is a great bonus. The best thing of all is that murders are practically non-existent.

2. Denmark: The Danish are ranked as some of the most content and happy people in the world! Their world-renowned welfare system is the envy of most of the known world.

3. New Zealand: It is the most unpolluted country in the world. People enjoy the landscape and sports facilities. This makes them one of the happiest nations of the world.

4. Austria: Austria has a wonderfully clean environment where everything is spotless, great transport systems and very low crime rates. It is also cheaper than many people believe.

5. Switzerland: Switzerland has one of the happiest and healthiest populations in the world, but what is their secret? Well, it is very simple: the authorities provide their citizens with the best education and health services.

1. Syria: The country was relatively stable years ago. But now it is the world’s worst country to live in. Political conflict is responsible for many of the problems in the country.

2. Iraq: It is among the world’s worst countries to live in. In spite of the fact that Iraq is famed for its rich heritage, the country faces many issues. Nevertheless, Iraq has witnessed a decreased level of violence across the country in recent years.

3. Niger: Only about 15.5% of Nigerian adults are literate. This is the worst literacy rate of any country in the Sub- Saharan region.

4. The Central African Republic: This is the poorest country in the world. However, not all of the country’s residents are poor. Income in CAR is the most unevenly distributed of all countries in the world.

5. Chad: People receive very little education. They suffer from a range of negative health outcomes. Life expectancy is only 51.6 years, one of the lowest in the world.
