THE YOUNG JACK SPARROW

Most people know who Captain Jack Sparrow is. He is the handsome pirate in the Pirates of the Caribbean films. He is played by Johnny Depp. He is clever, funny and dangerous. But who exactly was Jack Sparrow?

1) ............................................................................................ Jack Sparrow was born on a ship during a bad storm. His father was a pirate captain. We don’t really know what happened to his mother, but she probably died when Jack was a baby. Jack grew up in Shipwreck Cove, where he lived with his grandmother. His father spent his time at sea, so Jack didn’t see him very often.

2) ............................................................................................ Jack’s grandmother was often horrible to Jack. When he was about 16 years old, Jack decided to leave home and look for adventure. He put a few things in a bag and ran away. He hid on a ship and many weeks later, he arrived in Tortuga. This small Caribbean island was where pirates sometimes stayed, including the violent and dangerous Captain Torrents. Tortuga was not a safe place for a young boy.

3) ............................................................................................ One day, while he wasn’t looking, somebody stole Jack’s bag. He saw it a few days later. It was in the tavern, under Captain Torrents’ chair. While Captain Torrents was talking and drinking, Jack took the bag and escaped from the tavern. Later, when he looked inside the bag, he discovered that the bag wasn’t his. It was Captain’s Torrents’! Inside the bag, he found the scabbard of the Sword of Cortés.

4) ............................................................................................ Later, Jack learned that the scabbard gave the Sword of Cortés magic powers. This gave Jack the ideas for his first real adventure. He found an old sailing ship called the Barnacle and, together with his friend Arabella and a young boy called Fitzwilliam, he set off to find the Sword of Cortés. While they were sailing on the Caribbean seas, they had lots of adventures and also fought with Captain Torrents many times. Jack eventually found the Sword of Cortés.
