THINGS IN THE FUTURE
Smart phones were the main attraction at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in the beginning of this year. There were also a lot of apps and gadgets that were very interesting.
A Friendly Robot
Jonggun Park thought that some people can’t express their emotions. He said “We are so busy these days, always running to and from work, taking our kids to school, studying. We don’t have enough time to really interact with each other”. So he invented a cute robot that can give you the news or play music at your command. It asks you how you feel and tells you to share your feelings with others. “Are you tired?” he asks. “I will play music.”
Helping Blind People See
Samsung’s Relumino app will help the blind people see. This is a virtual reality head, which will make the images clear for the blind. It’s made for people who are legally blind, meaning they have very limited vision that cannot be corrected with glasses. Samsung Engineer Junghoon Cho said “People who are visually impaired can walk outside using our glasses. We want to help them have a better social relationship with other people.”
Is That Sofa Too Big?
It is not easy to buy furniture for your house. The furniture you like can be very big or small for your house. That’s why a company called Liveroom used virtual reality technology so that shoppers can imagine and see products in their homes.
This is how it works: A customer creates an image of a room and then finds the furniture from Liveroom’s product catalog. The item then pops up on the customer’s tablet or smartphone and he/she sees how it will look in his/her house.
“If you buy something online, you have only images. You have to visualize the product in your mind. Maybe the size and the colours are wrong,” said the company’s manager Nilupul. “With this technology, you can see exactly how the products look in your own home.”
