THREE OF THE WORLD’S LEAST CROWDED PLACES

THREE OF THE WORLD’S LEAST CROWDED PLACES

Do you long for peace and solitude on your travels? Then you can take your next break in one of these countries. Here are the three least densely populated places in the world according to the latest available figures from the UN Population Division.

Greenland: 0.0 is the population density of Greenland. The world’s biggest island is home to around 56,000 people. It means that a population around the size of west Devon (an area of 448.3 square miles) inhabits an area of 836,330 sq miles. It has mountainous shorelines, long summer days and jewel-blue lakes. Try visiting the Arctic ghost town of Skoldungen. People abandoned the town in 1961 for more accessible settlements.

Mongolia: Mongolia is a landlocked country of wide fields and semi-desert lands. It has a population that clusters in the capital, Ulaanbaatar. Only small nomadic communities live in the long strip of land, and they are threatened by harsh weather, storms and economic difficulties. Visitors also have a chance to stay in remote gers (tents that nomadic people live in) that offer a glimpse into traditional ways of living.

Iceland: The Northern Lights shine brightly over this lunar landscape of snow, rock, ice, and volcano, and those who go to see them won’t have many companions. Iceland has a population of around 330,000, mostly centred in the capital: Reykjavík. You can try a lot of different activities in Iceland like glacier walks, climbing, descents inside volcanoes and some of the world’s best diving: the gaps between tectonic plates are filled with crystal-clear water.
