Thunderstorms
A thunderstorm is a storm with lightning and thunder. A thunderstorm usually brings strong winds, fog, heavy rain and sometimes hail.
Thunderstorms can happen at any time of the year. But they usually happen in the spring and summer months in the afternoon and evening hours.
Every day there are around 1,800 thunderstorms in the world. Thunderstorms can be dangerous. Every thunderstorm makes lightning. Lightning can kill more people than hurricanes. Lightning is a bright flash of electricity in a thunderstorm. If you hear thunder, it means you’re close to the lightning. It’s safer if you’re in a building when you hear the thunder because lightning can harm you.
