TIME TRAVELS THROUGH SOUND

Travelling has always been a main interest of people all around the world since ancient times. People have travelled for many different reasons. From great explorers in the past to travel bloggers, vloggers of our age have been sharing their experiences with us. Deniz Aydemir, who is a son of one of my colleagues, is one of them.

He started a project on a website called Kickstarter, whose aim is to help bring creative projects of artists musicians, filmmakers, designers, and other creators’ to life. His aim was, as he said, “A new music documentary from Kazakhstan to Alaska, bringing near-extinct cultural expressions into the future.”

From the age of thirteen, he has always been interested in music, languages and travelling. As he puts it in his biography: “As a constant dreamer, I find the need to connect myself with the world one way or another. My tools for that are music, a bicycle, a camera, languages and thru these; communicating with the beautiful people that are out there.” After high school, Aydemir had a dream of studying at Berklee College of Music, which is one of the best music schools in the world. He got accepted with a scholarship, leaving Istanbul, his family and friends to pursue his dreams. He never stopped travelling and from Boston he went to live in Mexico City to study Spanish at UNAM University after his first year at Berklee. After he had finished studying at UNAM, he travelled from Spain to Turkey for three months on his bike, with his guitar and earning for his expenses with his talent.

While he was at his third year at university, all his journeys and experiences inspired him to start the project on Kickstarter to find sponsors. After he had had little but enough money, he set off his journey from Kazakhstan to Alaska and he has still been working on the documentary. He is also becoming popular on social media these days. Currently, he is taking part in music projects in Istanbul, not knowing which path life will open to him.
