TIPS FOR LEARNING A LANGUAGE EFFICIENTLY
At this level, you might look back at some of the problems you had while you were learning English. If you would like to learn a new language, make sure to keep the following tips in mind.
Remember to study intensively. That means, studying a language five hours a day for two weeks will be better for you than studying for one hour a day for two months. People complain about the lack of efficiency in their foreign language courses especially for this reason. They only study 3-4 hours per week, and the classes are often separated by a few days. Learning a language needs a lot of repetition, experience with using sentences and a continuous effort. It’s important to use a specific time of your day every day only for language learning.
Start with the most common words in the language you want to learn. Most people use a few hundred words every day to communicate, especially words about matters related to their daily lives. See which words and sentences can help you with shopping, asking for directions, etc. and then search for more vocabulary and structures commonly used in these situations. This will help you much more than memorising entire lists of vocabulary.
When you learn a new word, try to use it the right way a few times immediately. When you stop and look up a new word you have seen in a conversation, try to use it in the next two or three sentences you say. Research shows that repeating a word for a good number of times immediately after you have learnt it increases the chance of learning it well.
