“Let’s Do It! World” is a civic - led mass movement that began in Estonia in 2008 when 50,000 people united together to clean up the entire country in just fi ve hours. Country by country this idea started to spread. Lithuania did their clean up next, then Latvia, Slovenia, Portugal, Serbia and many more. In the face of such amazing enthusiasm, a new ambitious plan was born – let’s now clean up the entire world! Soon, Let’s Do It! was everywhere, sweeping up passionate, ambitious people around the world who believe, as we do, that real change is within reach. Today, in 2016 we have over 16 million volunteers . With more than 100 countries on board we have set ours elves a new challenge – to join the world for a massive clean up day in 2018.

Our dream is to live in a clean and healthy waste free world. Over the next couple of years , we will follow a detailed plan to make our dream certain to happ en . First, we are actively recruiting for ambitious leaders willing to run the massive nationwide clean ups. Then, using technology, the best professionals, and our worldwide volunteer base, we will map the world’s waste. Our third step will be to clean up the entire world in one, massive clean up day in September, 2018. And finally, we will bring together organizations, experts, and visionaries around the world to create a plan to stop the waste problem once and for all. We can keep our planet clean, but o nly if we do it together. In 2018, we’re focused on the ambitious goal of cleaning up the world from waste in one massive effort. We intend to get 150 countries on board for one day of extraordinary action and cooperation. On that September day, we’ll wake up in the morning in Japan, finish off the day in Hawaii, and at the end of it, we’ll have changed the world. If we succeed, we’ll engage 5% of the world’s population.

Did you know that every year, 20 million tons of garbage is added to our oceans, 80% of it from mainland waste. That’s like dumping over 710,000 Boeing 737 airplanes into the ocean...each year? The fact is, waste has a nasty little habit of not staying in one place. As trash begins to decompose, harmful chemicals and toxi ns begin to leak. First, into the soil, then it spreads into water and air – the very things we all depend on for a healthy life. Dirty drinking water, spreading diseases, red - flag air pollution days... these are all related in some ways to the waste we prod uce. Waste is a worldwide problem. There are countless stories of the negative impacts of trash around the world. In short, we care about trash because... we can’t afford not to.
