Tommy Hilfiger's Carrier

Tommy Hilfiger is a popular brand among all age groups including famous people like Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, and Kate Moss. The man who created it started working when he was eleven, but not in the fashion industry. He worked as a newspaper delivery boy, but he has always been interested in fashion.

His mother said that Tommy was a fan of the Beatles, so he had grown his hair and worn clothes like them. His style had been different than his friends’. They asked him where he had bought his clothes from and that was how he got into fashion. He saved money and, together with some of his friends, opened a store selling the jeans that they had bought and named it People’s Place. One of his friends stated that he didn’t believe they could sell the jeans, but the shop was a success, so they decided to open a few more shops in college campus areas.

While selling other people’s clothes, he started to design his own clothes. In one of his interviews he said that even though he hadn’t studied fashion design, the jeans, jackets and vests that he designed always became popular. He wanted to have his own brand, so in 1985 with Mohan Murjani he launched Tommy Hilfiger. In a short time the brand was known by everyone.

Tommy Hilfiger mainly sells casual smart clothes. He admitted that he had benefited from the revolution of Silicon Valley and casual Fridays. Until the 1980s people were wearing suits and ties while going to work, but Silicon Valley made a huge change and let the employees come to work with casual clothes. At the same time, some companies started to have casual Fridays. It was then Tommy started his company and designed smart, but comfortable clothes.
