Too Much Too Young?
I read a story the other day about a little boy who was addicted to video games. He started playing them when he was around 3 years old. It became a problem for him when he started school. He didn’t talk to his teacher or to any classmates. He only sat and thought about the games he wanted to play when he got home. He didn’t want to go to school because he was always thinking of his computer in his bedroom. He didn’t want to go anywhere actually. He didn’t want to go to parties, or to his friend’s house, or to the park.
He screamed and cried so much if he couldn’t play on his computer; his mum and dad didn’t know what to do with him anymore. They became really worried. When the boy turned 7 and there was no change or improvement, they took him to a psychotherapist. She agreed that the boy had a very serious problem. She started working with him two years ago. He can behave like a normal little boy now. He has friends, he talks to his teacher, he is sociable and outgoing, he enjoys parties and going out. The psychotherapist told his mum and dad that he absolutely must not play any more computer games until he is much older.
