TRANSPORT IN ISTANBUL
Istanbul is a big, busy city. Around sixteen million people live there, and many people visit every day for business or tourism. How do they get where they are going? There are many different types of public transport for them to use.
Riding the metro is popular. It is fast and comfortable. There are many stations on the European side of Istanbul, but not many on the Asian side. In the old part of Istanbul there is a tramline. The tram is very quiet. Riding the tram is sometimes uncomfortable because there are many tourists in Sultanahmet. There is an old-fashioned tram in Moda. They look very cool. There was an old tram on Istiklal Caddesi as well, but it is being repaired these days. There are also buses. You don’t need money to ride them. You need an Istanbul Card. The buses are slow because there are many cars on the roads.
My favourite way to travel in Istanbul is by ferry. There are lots of ferries. Travelling by ferry is exciting. It’s nice to feel the wind and smell the sea. Usually there is a café on the ferry. Many people eat toast and drink tea.
