UNDERSTANDING CAT BEHAVIOUR

Cats are wonderful animals to live with, but sometimes we cannot understand what they are trying to say to us. In this article, you will read about some behaviour of cats and why they do what they do.

I. RUBBING

Cats love rubbing up against their owners. This movement may involve all their body or only their forehead and cheeks. Many owners love and welcome this behaviour. When cats rub against objects, they are transferring their smell. This is the way they say, ‘It’s mine!’ They also do this to make sure that they have your full attention and concentration.

II. SCRATCHING

Firstly, cats scratch things to make their claws sharper. They also use this behaviour to leave their smell on the place. If a cat or your cat does this to your furniture, it’s often because that place has different smells of others. The sides of sofas, for example, are their favourite and these can have the smells of outdoors, your guests, bags or shoes.

III. SWISHY TAIL

Cats communicate with other cats and people through their body language. The tail is an important part of this communication. A swishy tail happens often because the cat is angry or wants to play. The swishing tail is a warning of a coming attack. If the cat is holding its body low and the tail begins swishing, look out! It is probably about to jump and attack you.
