Unique Species

Lots of animals live in large parts of the world, but you can find some animals only in some areas. Kangaroos and lemurs are two examples of these animals.

Kangaroos are native to Australia. You can find kangaroos in other parts of the world, but that is because humans took them there. There are four species of the kangaroo, and all move by jumping. The male kangaroo is usually larger than the female one. It can grow up to 2 metres tall and weigh about 90 kilograms. Kangaroos are all herbivores. That means they only eat plants. They sometimes come to people’s farms to find food, and they can be dangerous when they want to attack. Often it is the male kangaroo that attacks because it is more powerful.

Lemurs are native to Madagascar in Africa. There are about 100 species of lemurs from very small to large lemurs. The largest lemur is the indri. It is about 70 centimetres long and weighs about 9 kilograms. It eats plant leaves and can sometimes go to people’s homes and farms to steal their food. Indris are usually friendly and do not attack humans. But they can gather around dangerous animals in groups when they feel they are in danger.
