UNUSUAL SPORTS
Many sports, such as basketball and football, are known around the world. But not many people know about the more unusual sports — like chess boxing, for example. Below you are going to read about some of the most unusual sports which combine different sports.
Chess boxing is a challenge for both body and the mind. It combines the number 1 thinking sport with the number 1 fighting sport into a whole new fighting sport. It was brought to life by Iepe Rubingh in 2003. A chess boxing match is fought in eleven rounds of chess and boxing. The match begins with a chess game. It lasts three minutes. Then players start boxing which also lasts three minutes. Fighters may win by knockout in the ring, by checkmate in chess or by the judge’s decision.
Bossaball is a ball game between 2 teams, combining elements of volleyball, football and gymnastics with music into a new sport. It is played on an inflatable court between two teams of 4 players. The aim for each team is to ground the ball on the opponent’s field. Bossaball can be installed on various settings such as beaches, ski resorts, shopping malls, market places, hotels, universities, fairs and so on.
Footballey was created almost 25 years ago by Zeljko Derusek and Deze Galus from Serbia. The sport is a combination of football, tennis and volleyball, with rules very similar to tennis. It is suitable mostly for good football players because it requires excellent football technique with both legs and head. Players must score 11 points over 3 or 4 sets to win the game.
Fellboarding is a hybrid sport of mountain/dirt boarding and fell running, created by James Whatham. All you need is a mountain and a dirt board. The participants carry a mountain board on their shoulders for the running sections of the course. There are no defined areas where you have to run or board. You need to run up the hill or board down the hill. The winner is the first participant to cross the line.
