Victoria Jamieson
Victoria Jamieson from Britain started snowboarding at 20. She is now 23 and has won a lot of competitions during her sports career. We spoke to her when she was at a snowboarding competition last week in Switzerland and asked her some questions about her favourite sport.
Reporter: Why did you start snowboarding?
Victoria: I have always liked all kind of sports, especially skiing and it seemed natural to start snowboarding. It is easy to learn and you can become really good in a few months.
Reporter: Do you have to do a lot of practice?
Victoria: Well, in winter I go snowboarding in the mountains every day from 9.00 in the morning until 4 p.m. I also run and go biking. But I just love doing it all! I like the competition and being in the mountains. It’s so beautiful. But free-riding is what love the most.
Reporter: What is that?
Victoria: That’s doing what you want when you’re not in a competition, and it is the best thing in the world for me. I feel so independent and peaceful.
Reporter: What is important when you’re practising?
Victoria: You can learn quickly but you need lessons from a highly professional teacher. It is also important to have the right protective gear like a helmet, kneepads and elbow pads. They prevent you from getting hurt because to begin with, you spend a lot of time falling down!
