Victorian Times
Princess Victoria was born in 1819. She lived in one of the most beautiful palaces in London. She became queen when her uncle was found dead. She was only eighteen years old at the time. Queen Victoria ruled from 1837 to 1901.
When she met Prince Albert, she instantly fell in love with him. She thought her husband was the most handsome and most intelligent man in the world. They were very happy together. They had nine children: four boys and five girls.
In Victorian times, there was no radio or television, so people entertained each other at home.
Rich families had huge houses and lots of servants. They hired tutors for their children, especially the girls, to teach them at home. Some families sent the boys to stay at schools far away. Schools were very strict.
