Vintage Photos
I love looking at really old photos. Where I live, in Istanbul, there are some bookshops that also have big baskets of old photos outside. I really enjoy looking through the baskets and wondering about the people in them.
One of the photos that I really like is of a family. It seems to be a Victorian era photo. I like Victorian photos because the people always seem very serious and strict. We think that posing is a modern day trend but actually, people have been taking posing seriously for centuries.
In my favourite photo, there is a family of six. On the right hand side, there is a mother sitting with a baby on her knee. The father is on the left of the photo and he has an enormous moustache! There are two young boys and a young girl in the middle. The girl is wearing a white dress and has pretty white ribbons in her hair. All of them seem to be wearing their best clothes for the occasion.
By looking at this photo, and others like it, we can conclude that posing for a family photo in the 19th century was a very serious business and not at all like the carefree family snaps of today!
