VIRTUAL REALITY vs TELEVISION

VIRTUAL REALITY vs TELEVISION

Virtual reality is a technology that helps users enter new worlds which are created by computers. Simply by just putting on a headset you can enter new worlds. You can move around and explore these computer-generated spaces as if they are real. Interest is growing in this technology, so the companies are racing with each other to sell virtual reality headsets and content. However, this technology may still not be enough to change the way people watch sports on TV.

Some experts say virtual reality can never be the same as the experience of watching sports on television. While watching sports on TV, you can watch a mix of viewing angles and replays on TV as the broadcasts switch from camera to camera. Television is also a great way of watching sports together with friends.

Even the companies that produce virtual reality content for sports leagues cannot see virtual reality competing with TV broadcast in the near future.

While using the VR, wearing these headsets allows fans to go inside a team’s locker room or follow a star athlete working but it would be hard to give fans the real experience of being on the field. A TV camera can zoom in and show the game from the sidelines. But virtual reality cameras would have to be placed in the middle of the playing field which is simply not possible so far.
