Water Crisis

Water Crisis

Water covers 70% of our earth. Freshwater - the water we drink, shower and wash with - covers only 3% of the earth. Where does freshwater come from? It comes from lakes, rivers, and ice. 3% is a very small amount!

1.1 billion people in our world don't have clean drinking water. 2.7 billion people don't have enough clean water. 2.4 billion people only have dirty water, which causes them to get ill.

Many of the water systems we use have problems now. For example, rivers and lakes are drying up, or becoming too dirty to use. More than half of our world's wetlands have disappeared because our weather has changed, and it rains less now.

How can we help? We can save water by turning off the tap when we brush our teeth. We can save our dirty clothes until the washing machine is full. We can also use less water when taking a shower.

If we can all do these small things at home, this can make a big difference in the water crisis.
