Ways of Expressing Ourselves
Non-verbal communication is called body language. It’s a common way of expressing ourselves. There are many ways including the way we sit, stand, talk to others and even how we hold our hands. It’s mentioned in various studies that our body language speaks louder than our words. If it’s interpreted properly, one can express him/herself in a great way.
One of the most important parts of our body language is our eye contact. It’s generally used to find out if the people are lying or not because it’s known that if people are lying they avoid making eye contact but the ones who are aware of this make more eye contact while lying. If you see someone making unusual eye contact, you should be careful.
Another way of expressing ourselves is using our body position. It says a lot about our opinions and feelings. For instance when we’re interested and involved in a dialogue, we face and position our shoulders to the people we are talking to. If we’re not so interested in the conversation, it’s obviously recognized that we tend to stay away from the person we are talking to.
The latest studies show that if people are not feeling so comfortable with the conversations they are in, they keep playing with things around them and they can easily be distracted. They might distract not only themselves but also the others. This might not be always true, but it’s a common occurrence.
The other common body language signal that we use is shaking a foot or leg. It’s known that people shake their legs while they’re feeling nervous. We see these signals a lot during interviews. Because many employers are aware of these signals, the next time you have an interview, try to avoid shaking your legs.
The last common piece of body language is pinching one’s nose. It’s a sign of being unhappy with someone or something. When people know that they have done something that might upset the others, people pay more attention to body language. Whenever you see someone pinching their nose, you might go and ask if they are sad and offer your support.
