Ways to Improve Your Memory

In the past, people believed that our memory worked effectively during our early adulthood and as time passed the functions of it slowly started to decline. However, research shows that it isn’t like that at all. We should be careful with our lifestyle, health and diet if we want to have a good memory. There are a lot of ways to improve your memory.

Mental Exercise: Until we become adults, our brain develops millions of neural pathways which help us

remember the things that we have learnt or heard and solve problems that we encounter. If we approach the problems or try to recall things using the same pathways, we don’t stimulate our brain. It means we aren’t challenging it. We need to do mental exercise to improve our brain. Try to be involved with new activities that your brain isn’t familiar with like learning how to play a musical instrument, doing a kind of sport that you haven’t tried before. Learning new things stimulates your brain.

Physical Exercise: Physical exercise is as important as mental exercise because the brain gets more oxygen which makes your memory work better. It also helps you to get rid of stress hormones. You don’t have to do heavy exercise. Even a short walk will make a huge difference to your brain.

Regular Sleep: Sleep is one of the fundamental things to consolidate your brain and memory. It’s necessary to have a regular sleep schedule. You need to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. To have a good night’s sleep, reduce the amount of caffeine you take and stop watching TV at least an hour before you go to bed.

Spend Time with Friends: Interacting with people stimulates our brain. Research shows that people who have active social lives have slower memory decline.

There are also other ways to improve your memory like staying away from stress, eating the right things, repeating the things that you want to learn, visualizing, and organizing your ideas.
